Cooking is the best way I know, as a physician, to radically improve health. My recipe for brain-healthy eating is simple: Fill your plate with the foods proven to protect and nourish the brain, and avoid the foods that contribute to decline. I love helping people discover how delicious and satisfying these foods can be.

Annie M. Fenn, M.D.

Annie M. Fenn, M.D., is a physician and chef who is focused on Alzheimer’s disease prevention. Dr. Fenn is the founder of Brain Health Kitchen, an online resource providing innovative whole foods-based recipes and dietary recommendations that equip people to cultivate resilient, healthy, and nourished brains for themselves and their families. As a person whose family is affected by neurodegenerative disease, Dr. Fenn deeply understands people’s concerns about dementias, as well as the urgency to take action to maintain thriving brains as we age.

Dr. Fenn is a culinary expert and instructor. In 2017, she founded the Brain Health Kitchen Cooking School, the only school of its kind entirely devoted to teaching how to cook through the lens of brain health. She teaches Brain Health Kitchen cooking classes throughout the US and internationally, training her students in modern techniques to produce delicious and beautiful recipes – rich with neuroprotective nutrients. Also, Dr. Fenn is a frequent lecturer on the leading evidence regarding foods and dietary patterns that reduce the risk of dementia and cognitive decline.

Dr. Fenn is a firm believer in the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet and the brain-specific MIND diet, which she views as more of a lifestyle than a diet. From a young age, Dr. Fenn has been a passionate home cook, later receiving formal training at culinary schools in Italy, France, Mexico, and at the Culinary Institute of America. She believes that food should be shared, savored, enjoyed, and respected. She encourages people to eat a wide variety foods, without counting calories or fat grams, or eliminating entire food groups.

Dr. Fenn is also a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, a certified menopausal health care expert, and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her M.D. from the Chicago Medical School/Finch University of Health Sciences and completed her residency in Chicago. Dr. Fenn practiced obstetrics and gynecology for over 20 years, delivering nearly 1000 babies spanning Illinois to Wyoming.

We are very privileged to have Annie’s advice and expertise in brain-protective dietary patterns, as well as her help in developing high-quality educational and culinary content for a brain healthy lifestyle.
