This is a very exciting time in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, not only for new treatments, but also for new breakthroughs in prevention, and I am excited about investigating the role nutrition may play in this.
Jeffrey L. Cummings, MD, ScD
Jeffrey Cummings, MD, ScD, is a world-renowned neurologist, clinician, researcher, and author in Alzheimer’s Disease and age-related brain disease. Dr. Cummings is currently Professor of Brain Science and the Director of the Chambers-Grundy Center for Transformative Neuroscience, a center devoted to using the tools of neuroscience and neurologic drug development to transform people’s lives, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He is also Co-Director of the Quirk Brain Health and Biomarkers Laboratory at UNLV. Previously, Dr. Cummings served as Founding Director of the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, a medical center uniquely dedicated to state-of-the-art care and research for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases and their families. He also has served as director of the Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research, and director of the Deane F. Johnson Center for Neurotherapeutics, both at UCLA.
He is globally known for his contributions to Alzheimer’s research, drug development, and clinical trials. Having published over 900 articles and 44 books devoted to neuroscience and Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Cummings has been recognized for his leadership and impact in the brain health field with multiple awards including, the American Geriatrics Society’s Henderson Award (2006), the national Alzheimer’s Association’s Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Award (2008), and the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry’s Distinguished Scientist Award (2010).
Dr. Cummings earned his M.D from the University of Washington. He received his residency training in neurology at Boston University School of Medicine and completed his fellowship in Neuropathology and Neuropsychiatry at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, London.
